Education Matters answers viewers’ college financial aid questions

College should be a time of growth and discovery, but for many it can also be a source of stress as students and parents try to find a way to pay for it. Fortunately, financial aid assistance is available.

KET’s “College Financial Aid Call-In 2018, a one-hour special edition of Education Matters, offers help in navigating the all-important college financial aid application process.

The program features a panel of financial aid experts who will provide information on the availability of scholarships, grants and other financial aid and offer tips on applying for student loans.

Panelists include:

  • Michael Birchett, financial aid director, Bluegrass Community & Technical College
  • Bryan Erslan, director of student financial assistance, Eastern Kentucky University
  • Victoria Owens, executive financial aid director, Simmons College of Kentucky
  • Kate Ware, student aid branch manager, Kentucky Higher Education Assistance Authority (KHEAA)

Issues discussed by the panel include common application mistakes, documents necessary to apply for financial aid, types of aid, deadlines and financial aid packages. In a pre-recorded segment, members of the Student Voice Team of the Prichard Committee provide the student perspective on college planning and financial aid.
