Happy National Arts and Humanities Month

The arts bring us together, tell our story, teach us history, and give us a vision for the future. Without them the world would be very dull and uneventful. To celebrate National Arts and Humanities Month, here are some resources to explore and use in your classroom. This is just a tiny sample of what’s available in PBS LearningMedia, so take a look around to discover more! These resources are accompanied by teacher materials and can be used in various ways and content areas.

Due to the pandemic, the KET Media Lab is still closed to visitors, but there are many virtual media arts-focused options.

Kentucky Virtual Art Museum 
Suggested grades 3-12

Museums and institutions from across Kentucky participated in this Kentucky Virtual Art Museum educational collaboration. Museums were asked to select artwork that represent the scope of their collections while relating to Kentucky academic content. The goal is to provide teachers with and exciting array of images for classroom use, while making them aware of the rich resources available in Kentucky museums.

Social and Emotional Learning: The Arts for Every Classroom 
Suggested grades 9-12

This collection offers resources to help educators and parents understand emotional development and lead students in art projects that build those skills—projects that can be incorporated into almost any classroom subject. Background information on adverse childhood experiences and racial trauma is also included, with the goal of helping teachers prepare students to be caring, responsible citizens in diverse communities. Grades 3-12

Sound Field

Hosted by LA Buckner and Nahre Sol, accomplished musicians and music teachers exploring the music theory, production, history and culture behind our favorite songs and musical styles. Pop, classical, rap, jazz, electronic music, folk, country and indigenous music are covered with highlights on the connections between genres.
