Introducing Job Search: A Practical New Part of Every Workplace Essential Skills Course

Workplace Essential Skills, KET’s flexible online adult education courses that allow learners to refresh basic math, language arts and soft skills contextualized to their choice of seven industries, is now offering a new Job Search component with each course. Along with a math and a language arts course in Hospitality and Tourism, Information Technology, Healthcare, Transportation and Logistics, Construction, Manufacturing and Marketing, Sales and Services, all Workplace Essential Skills courses will offer a Job Search module that guides users through the process of looking for new employment in their chosen field.

Like all Workplace Essential Skills courses, Job Search is highly interactive and features videos from people in the industries sharing helpful tips and information. Videos in each course feature managers explaining what they are looking for in employees and in resumes, where they post jobs and look for candidates, and dos and don’ts of going for an interview. An employment expert talks learners through how to prepare for an interview, what to wear, what to avoid discussing, and how to talk about challenges like employment gaps and past involvement with the criminal justice system.

In the Job Search courses, learners will see examples of job postings and resumes and practice filling out a relevant sample application. They learn about parts of a resume and have a chance to put together their own, which they can print or save to use as the basis of a real resume later. They also interact with lots of practical information about where to learn about different jobs in an industry, where to find them, and how to stay positive and persistent in a job search.
