KET receives Robinson Award from Kentucky Board of Education

The Kentucky Board of Education recently honored KET with the Dr. Samuel Robinson Award. The annual award is presented to an individual or a group in Kentucky in recognition of “outstanding leadership, commitment and service in promoting equity and opportunity to learn at high levels for all Kentucky students.”

KET received the 2017 Robinson Award, along with co-recipient the YMCA of Central Kentucky, at the April 12 meeting of the Kentucky Board of Education in Frankfort.

KET was recognized for its work to provide an efficient and equitable way to help overcome geographic barriers and economic disparities for Kentucky students through high-quality educational resources and services.

“I was honored to accept the award on behalf of our entire KET staff, whose efforts allow us to provide accessible and engaging instructional programs and services to students, teachers, educators and citizens throughout the Commonwealth,” said Shae Hopkins, KET’s executive director and CEO.

Hopkins accepted the award from William Twyman, chair of the Kentucky Board of Education; Commissioner of Education Stephen L. Pruitt; and David Couch, associate commissioner for the Kentucky Department of Education’s Office of Technology.

The Robinson Award is named in honor of Dr. Samuel Robinson, a former educator and respected social justice advocate, who served on the Kentucky Board of Education from 1991 to 2004. Additional information about KET’s selection for the honor is available via the award press release issued by the Kentucky Department of Education.
