Celebrating Science and Tech at Louisville S.T.E.A.M. Day

KET participated in a celebration of science and technology at Louisville S.T.E.A.M. Day. Over 2,000 families attended the event that featured dance parties, rock painting, Minecraft, concrete making and more. The day was made a success by the contributions of all the sponsors including: Louisville Public Library, Kentucky Science Center, The Gheens Science Hall and Rauch Planetarium, Southland Dairy Farmers’ Mobile Dairy (+Cow), Speed Art Museum, Second Chances Wildlife, Jefferson Memorial Forest, Louisville Rocks, Irving Materials, Louisville Mandolin Orchestra, & more!

KET hosted a table where children built and launched their own air-powered rockets based on the Curious George: Blast Off! program. This activity allowed them to explore air’s power to move objects and the effect of different designs on a rocket’s flight.

KET also let families interact with the Scratch Jr. app to start learning some basic coding concepts. A lot of families were surprised at how quickly they could pick up the concept when it was taught in such a fun and interactive manner.
