The Buzzard and the Monkey

John O’Neal, performing as the legendary character Junebug Jabbo Jones, tells a classic “why” story. This story explains why the buzzard eats only things that are already dead. In this story, the buzzard tricks and eats several unsuspecting animals during a terrible drought. The monkey decides to stop the buzzard with a trick of his own. This classic “why” story explains why the buzzard eats only things that are dead and is one of the most widely known of its type in the world. This version is based on one John O’Neal learned from Louise Anderson of Jacksonville, North Carolina.
