KET Adult Education joins in recognizing National Adult Education and Family Literacy Week, September 13-19. We are proud to elevate the vital role adult education plays in helping individuals strengthen foundational skills, earn credentials, prepare for careers, and create brighter opportunities for themselves and their families. The week serves as an important reminder of the lasting impact of lifelong learning and the achievements of adult learners and the dedication of educators and programs across the country.

As the national workforce continues to evolve, adult education remains more important than ever. Nearly two-thirds of today’s jobs require education or training beyond high school, a number expected to grow in the coming years. At the same time, more than 28 million adults in the United States lack basic digital skills. By helping learners build academic, workplace, and digital literacy skills, adult education programs support reskilling and upskilling efforts that lead to family-sustaining careers and greater economic mobility.

The benefits of adult education ripple beyond these individual learners. When adults earn a high school credential, communities benefit through increased workforce participation, higher tax revenues, and reduced public costs. Adult education also helps families break cycles of intergenerational poverty while strengthening local economies and creating more vibrant communities.
